Today’s plant from the garden is the Hellebore. We only have two little Hellebores in the garden that I planted last April in the front border. They bring some welcome colour to the border before the Daffodils and Muscari come out. I have another 10 root cuttings that are currently coming along and will be planted out this autumn. Quick facts The flower petals are not actually petals, these are called sepals. The name "Helleborus" originates from the Greek words "helle" which means "to take away" and "bora" which means "food". Today’s plant from the garden is the Iris. We have some borders that run along the front of the house. As the front faces south, these borders keep the plants in them quite warm and generally everything in them grows and flowers earlier than other things in the garden. Today’s plant from the garden is the snowdrop. Things are starting to move in the garden now, spring is definitely around the corner. We have a rock garden that’s only in sun in the spring (after that the beech shades it out), so my plan is to plant it with spring bulbs. At other places around the garden we have clumps of well established snowdrops that are just screaming out to be divided. This will be done as soon as they’ve finished flowering.
